Artist Michael O’Keefe makes drawings and sculptures using the figure as his primary subject. O’Keefe would define his work as “figurative” in the sense that the incentive, the concern, and the subject stems from the human figure and, as importantly, the human psyche. O’Keefe’s sculptures employ various techniques of modeling, carving, assemblage, constructing, and mold-making, and the final works are often cast bronze or plaster. In some cases his plasters work is painted and in other cases the color is a result of using colored plaster as the piece is being made. O’Keefe received his BFA from Muhlenberg College and received his MFA from Southern Methodist University. He also studied at the New York Studio School as well as the International School of Art in Umbria, Italy. Contemporary influences include Nicholas Cairns, Scott Sherk, Jonathan Silver, Bruce Gagnier, Christopher Cairns, and others. |
